Top ratings when it comes to safety, consistently exemplary performance across all test criteria, and overall winner receiving an “exemplary” rating: The iON evo electric vehicle tyre from premium manufacturer Hankook came out on top with excellent performance in the Auto Bild major EV tyre test (13th March 2025 edition). The testers put a total of eight tyres in the size 215/55 R 18 through their paces, all designed to be particularly suitable for electric cars. For the top-class tyre portfolio, the goal was to offer uncompromising safety and still allocate the battery capacity sparingly, i.e. to achieve the longest possible range per battery charge thanks to low rolling resistance. No other tyre in the extensive test did this as well as the Hankook iON evo, which took the top spot on the podium with an overall score of 1.1.
The standard to meet: outstanding driving performance and low rolling resistance
In the challenging wet surface tests, the Hankook tyre came out on top on the circular track and for handling, securing top scores for two of five categories. In addition, the premium tyre designed specifically for electric vehicles also finished second in the three other categories of braking, aquaplaning, and aquaplaning in curves. The Hankook tyre dominated in the dry surface test and took first place in two of three individual tests, specifically the braking and handling tests. It also came in the top five in the comparison for drive-by noise. In addition, the iON evo comes equipped with Hankook i Sound Absorber technology for a particularly low noise level in the cabin. In the environment category, the iON evo delivered an impressive performance in the range and roll-out tests, coming second in both. Finally, the impressive test result was rounded off by a solid rating for costs with consistently good scores for mileage, price/mileage and rolling resistance. The Auto Bild tyre testers delivered the following conclusion: “Special EV tyre with good safety reserves during aquaplaning, short braking distances, outstanding driving dynamics, good mileage, good comfort and low rolling resistance”.
