MUMBAI, Sept 13 (Reuters) – India’s natural rubber imports in August more than doubled from a year ago to 40,809 tonnes as a drop in local production due to heavy rainfall forced tyre makers to increase purchases overseas, the state-run Rubber Board said in a statement.
The country’s production during the month fell 5.5 percent on year to 69,000 tonnes, while consumption eased by 4 percent to 80,000 tonnes, it said on Friday.
India, the world’s fourth-biggest producer of natural rubber, also imports it from Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. (Reporting by Rajendra Jadhav; Editing by Sunil Nair)
