WARREN COUNTY, Tenn. (Oct. 11, 2013) — Bridgestone Americas has completed a two-year, $36.6 million expansion at its Warren County truck tire plant, which will boost capacity at the 23-year-old facility 11 percent to 9,000 tires a day.
The expansion created 45 full-time and contractor jobs, Bridgestone said, expanding employment there to about 850.
The additional capacity is being brought on stream during the fourth quarter, Bridgestone said.
Steve Shelton, Senior Vice President, Technology, Manufacturing and Procurement, said the expansion will help Bridgestone meet rising demand for Bridgestone- and Firestone-brand truck and bus tires and will benefit the local community as well.
Bridgestone announced the expansion in September 2011,
The Warren County facility earned Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council in 2008, the first tire plant in the world to do so, Bridgestone said. LEED is awarded to buildings for excellent energy and water efficiency, indoor environmental quality and resource stewardship.
The plant also has been recognized as an OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star site, meaning it has excellent safety and health management systems and injury rates that are below the industry’s national average.
