NEW DELHI – Prices of wheat fell in key wholesale markets across the country today, and prices of maize declined as well in Bihar’s Purnea market, traders said.
* Despite lower arrivals, prices of WHEAT in Kota were down because of tepid demand from overseas buyers, said Chander Khandelwal, a local trader.
* Arrivals were pegged at 2,500 bags (1 bag = 50 kg) today, compared with 4,000 bags on Wednesday.
* Prices of mill-quality wheat in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, also fell on the back of weak export demand, said Jitendra Panwar, a local trader.
* Arrivals were unchanged from the previous day at 2,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg).
* Prices of MAIZE in Davanagere, a key market in Karnataka, were largely unchanged today. Arrivals were pegged at 4,000 bags (1 bag = 65 kg), up 1,000 bags from Wednesday, said local trader Shiv Kumar.
* Demand for maize is seen sluggish over the next few weeks as market participants await the good quality crop to reach markets to make fresh purchases, said Kumar.
* Prices of maize in Purnea declined marginally due to a fall in demand and higher arrivals. Arrivals were pegged at 4,500 bags, compared with 4,000 bags the previous day, said local trader Amit Aggarwal.
* Prices of BASMATI 1121 PADDY and BAJRA were largely unchanged across markets.
