New Delhi 03-12-2013: CM today met Central Minister P Chidambaram at North Block. The meeting was held as part of Kerala’s demand to increase the customs duty of rubber as the price of rubber has fallen from Rs 223 to Rs 160. CM said that the fall in price has affected the farmers and workers badly.
CM pointed out that it is necessary to hold the price of rubber in the market. The MPs from Kerala had demanded this and Kerala had given request in this regard many times to the Centre. CM said that the Minister has raised doubts regarding the rationalization in increasing the duty of rubber when the price of rubber has risen in the international market. However the CM said that the request of the state is expected to be considered in a favourable manner by the Centre.
