NEW DELHI – Prices of wheat fell today in key wholesale markets of Kota for the second straight day. Maize prices, on the other hand, rose in Davanagere and Purnea, traders said.
* Prices of mill-quality WHEAT fell today in Kota, Rajasthan, due to lower demand from domestic bulk buyers and a slight increase in arrivals, said local trader Aniket Mehta.
* In Kota, arrivals were pegged today at 6,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), up 1,000 bags from the previous day.
* Prices may fall further, as fresh arrivals are likely to hit the markets in March, traders said.
* Prices of mill-quality wheat were flat today in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Arrivals were pegged steady at 1,000 bags, local trader N.K. Agarwal said.
* The State Supply Corp’s tender to purchase 700,000 tn of wheat in Madhya Pradesh, which was supposed to open on Feb 2, will now open on Monday.
* Prices of MAIZE rose today in Davanagere, Karnataka, because of improved demand from stockists, said Shiva Kumar, a local trader.
* Arrivals were steady at 2,500 bags (1 bag = 65 kg). The rise in price was limited due to unchanged supply, as farmers held on to their stocks, anticipating a rise in prices in the near future, traders said.
* In Purnea, Bihar, prices of maize rose today because of a decline in arrivals over the past few days, said local trader Khaniya Rastogi.
* Arrivals were steady at 2,000 bags, though down 50% from Friday.
* Supply of the coarse grain in Bihar has declined, as this is the lean season, and fresh crops will hit the market only in the first week of April.
* Prices of BASMATI 1121 PADDY and BAJRA were largely unchanged across markets.
