NEW DELHI – Price of maize rose today in the key wholesale market of Davanagere, while prices of wheat remained unchanged in Kota and Indore.
* Price of MAIZE rose slightly in Davanagere, a major market in Karnataka, as demand from domestic stockists improved at lower price levels, said Shiva Kumar, a local trader.
* Arrivals were steady at 1,000 bags (1 bag = 65 kg).
* Maize prices in Purnea, Bihar, were steady as a fall in supply was offset by sluggish demand from bulk buyers, said local trader Kanhaiya Rastogi.
* Prices are expected to remain stable in the near term, but may fall in April after the fresh crop arrives in the markets, he added.
* Arrivals halved to 500 bags from Tuesday. Supply of maize in Bihar has fallen in recent days as the lean season is underway.
* Price of mill-quality WHEAT was steady in the key trading centres of Kota in Rajasthan and Indore in Madhya Pradesh due to lack of significant demand as stockists are waiting for fresh crop to hit the markets.
* Arrivals in Kota were steady at 5,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), said Aniket Mehta, a local trader. In Indore, arrivals were pegged at 2,500 bags, up 500 bags from Tuesday, said local trader Jitendra Panwar.
* Prices of BASMATI 1121 PADDY and BAJRA were largely unchanged across markets.
