KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 30): Malaysian rubber prices closed lower today in quiet trading ahead of the year end, dealers said.
A dealer said the Kuala Lumpur rubber market opened slightly lower today compared with last Friday’s closing due to a stronger ringgit.
Players were also seen sidelined due to lack of fresh leads ahead of the new year.
Meanwhile, another dealer said the fall in the local rubber market was in tandem with the decline on the Tokyo rubber futures exchange, which had defied a weaker yen to close lower.
At noon, the Malaysian Rubber Board’s official physical price for tyre-grade SMR 20 decreased half-a-sen to 752.5 sen a kg, and latex-in-bulk slipped five sen to 548 sen a kg.
The unofficial closing price for tyre-grade SMR 20 fell 5.5 sen to 748 sen a kg, while latex-in-bulk dropped 5.5 sen to 545 sen a kg.
