Kottayam, Dec. 30:
Spot rubber firmed up further on Monday.
Covering purchases at lower levels kept the market bullish during the day.
Sellers stayed back on expectations that RSS 4 will hit Rs 180 once the tyre makers become active on the grade.
Most growers preferred to hold their stocks to sell at higher levels when the market slips in to the low production season.
Sheet rubber improved to Rs 164 (Rs 163) a kg both at Kottayam and Kochi, according to traders and the Rubber Board. The grade was firm at Rs 161 (Rs 160) as quoted by the dealers.
January futures firmed up to Rs 166.60 (Rs 165.90), February to Rs 169.11 (Rs 168.57), March to Rs 172.29 (Rs 171.60), April to Rs 174.90 (Rs 173.90) and May to Rs 176.89 (Rs 176.46) while the June futures remained inactive on the National Multi Commodity Exchange.
January futures closed at ¥276.5 (Rs 162.95) on the Tokyo Commodity Exchange.
Spot rubber rates Rs/kg: RSS-4: 164 (163); RSS-5: 156.50 (155); Ungraded: 152 (150); ISNR 20: 160 (157) and Latex 60%: 125 (122).
