Several rubber-related businesses in the lower South are threatened by a labour shortage, a labour expert said.
The rubber processing sector needs at least 40,000 additional workers, according to the expert, who declined to be named.
The labour shortage is due to greater work opportunities in other regions.
Up to 50% of workers from the North and the Northeast who had moved to the South to work were now heading back home.
The source said the fishing industry, which relies on immigrants from Cambodia and Myanmar, also faces a shortage.
Authorities are considering the possibility of recruiting Bangladeshi or Rohingya workers.
