The rubber market started the New Year on a weak note, with thin trading and lack of buying activity, a dealer said.
He said the market was quiet as the rubber market in Japan was still closed due to the year-end holidays.
The Japanese rubber market is the trend-setter for rubber prices in Asia.
At noon, the Malaysian Rubber Board official physical price for tyre-grade Standard Malaysia Rubber (SMR) 20 shed 3.5 sen to 744 sen a kg while latex-in-bulk lost 11 sen to 530.5 sen a kg.
The unofficial closing price for tyre-grade SMR 20 stood at 740.5 sen a kg while latex-in-bulk was quoted at 523.5 sen a kg.
There was no comparative unofficial closing price as the market only traded for half-a-day on Tuesday, the eve of the New Year.– Bernama
