NEW DELHI – Prices of maize rose in Davanagere in Karnataka today, but stayed flat in Bihar’s Purnea market. Wheat prices in key wholesale markets of Kota and Indore were also steady, said market participants.
* Prices of MAIZE in Davanagere, a major market in Karnataka, rose today due to an improvement in demand from stockists, said Shiva Kumar, a local trader.
* Arrivals were pegged steady at 1,000 bags (1 bag = 65 kg). Traders expect prices to rise even further as stockists continue to place bulk orders, Kumar said.
* Maize prices in Purnea, Bihar, remained flat due to demand-supply parity, said local trader Kanhaiya Rastogi. Prices may fall in April after commencement of the new crop in markets, he added.
* Arrivals were pegged unchanged at 800 bags.
* Prices of mill-quality WHEAT remained stable in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Arrivals were pegged at 3,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), compared with 3,500 bags on Tuesday. Of this, around 2,000 bags were of the new crop.
* The price of wheat was also steady in Kota, Rajasthan, due to moderate demand, as stockists are waiting for fresh crop to arrive in markets, which is expected from the first week of March.
* Arrivals in Kota were pegged at 5,000 bags, compared with 6,000 bags on Tuesday, said Aniket Mehta, a local trader.
