Natural rubber exports in December last year rose 11.5% to 83,336 tonnes from 74,749 in 2012, the Statistics Department said today.
Standard Malaysian Rubber (SMR) contributed 94.1% to total exports, with 62.6% of that comprising SMR 20, the department said in a statement.
Natural rubber was exported mainly to China (61.9%), followed by Germany (9.9%), Iran (2.3%), the United States (4.9%), Brazil (2.2%), South Korea (1.7%), Mexico (1.5%) and France (1.5%).
Production for the month under review totalled 76,482 tonnes, up 0.3% year-on-year with the smallholding sector contributing 93%, while the estate sector accounted for 7.0%.
Kedah produced the highest natural rubber in estates, accounting for 24.5%, followed by Perak (17.4%) and Negri Sembilan (19.0%),” the department said.
Total natural rubber for domestic consumption in December last year was 36,066 tonnes, down 10.0% year-on-year, with the rubber gloves industry being the highest consuming industry at 24,369 tonnes (71.5%), followed by rubber thread (7.0%) and tyre and tubes (6.4%).
The country's natural rubber stocks stood at 168,111 tonnes as at end-December last year, a 4.6% increase from November 2013 and 0.6% lower vis-a-vis December 2012.
The average monthly price of latex concentrate was 535.88 sen, a 4.6% rise from November 2013.
However, it dropped 7.1% from the same month in 2012.
Production productivity for the month under review was 130.8 kilogramme per hectare, up by 20% from the previous month, but registered a 0.2% decline year-on-year. – Bernama, February 12, 2014.
