HORGEN, Switzerland—Styron Europe GmbH plans to purchase the solution styrene butadiene rubber capacity rights of JSR Corp. to increase its production capacity.
JSR, a Japanese material supplier, and Styron Europe, a legal entity of Berwyn, Pa.-based Styron L.L.C., have reached an agreement under which Styron will acquire JSR’s current SSBR production capacity rights of one train at Styron’s world-scale rubber production hub in Schkopau, Germany.
Styron’s Schkopau facility currently features three trains that supply tire customers worldwide. JSR struck a deal with Styron in 2007, giving the firm capacity rights to 30,000 tons of SSBR from one train.
Termination of the pact is effective March 31.
With full capacity rights, Styron will be able to increase its capabilities to serve the global tire market, said Francesca Reverberi, Styron’s business director for rubber.
