KOCHI, Thursday, Feb 20- Rubber production in Vietnam is seen rising to 960,000 tn in 2014, from 949,000 tn in the previous year, said Tran Thi Thuy Hoa from the Vietnam Rubber Association.
Hoa said the government has been trying to control production of rubber and keep it stable as the tepid demand scenario may lead to a surplus and pull down prices.
The government is also trying to reduce production costs so that farmers do not have to bear the brunt of the controlled supply, Hoa said on the sidelines of the India Rubber Meet.
Rubber prices touched multi-year lows recently due to a supply glut in the global market. Many Southeast Asian rubber-growing countries have been actively trying to cut output to reduce global stocks and support prices.
