The site of the 1.5 million-square-foot Hankook Tire America Corp. plant in Clarksville, Tenn., will be ready by Aug. 31, the Clarksville-Montgomery County Industrial Development Board said.
“We’re going to do everything we can to get the site ready to turn over to them by that time,” IDB Executive Director Mike Evans said.
Evans told the full board that the selection of a contractor to handle the site work is expected to happen shortly after a meeting on March 17.
The project will involve preparing the large, open-field site, and taking it to “pad-ready” status. That process is expected to consume most of this summer.
Evans said the formal name of the Clarksville facility will be Hankook Tire Manufacturing Tennessee L.P.
Hankook Tire announced last October it would build the $800 million plant in Montgomery County to produce high-end performance tires at an annual production rate of about 11 million.
The manufacturing facility is expected to create at least 1,800 local, direct jobs.
