NEW DELHI – Prices of wheat and maize were unchanged across key wholesale markets of the country today because of thin trade, traders said.
* Prices of mill-quality WHEAT were steady in the Indore market due to subdued demand from exporters and fall in supply, said local trader N.K. Agarwal.
* Arrivals were lower at 4,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), compared with 5,000 bags on Thursday.
* Farmers are holding onto stocks and refusing to sell at a lower price. This has resulted in fall in arrivals.
* In Kota, Rajasthan, prices of wheat were flat. Arrivals were at 30,000 bags, unchanged from the previous day, said local trader Chander Khandelwal
* Prices of MAIZE remained unchanged in Purnea, Bihar, according to local dealer Kanhaiya Rastogi.
* Arrivals were lower at 90,000 bags (1 bag = 65 kg) compared with 105,000 bags on Thursday.
* Arrivals were lower as rain hindered supplies in the region. Moreover, cyclonic storm Asani has damaged most of the crop.
* Prices of maize in Davanagere, a major market in Karnataka, were also stable, as weak bulk demand offset a fall in supply, said local trader Shiva Kumar.
* In Davanagere, arrivals were at 300 bags, down 700 bags from the previous day due to rainfall.
* Prices of BASMATI 1121 PADDY and BAJRA were largely unchanged across markets.
