India’s natural rubber output continued to decline in April, falling 3.8% year-on-year to 51,000 ton as against 53,000 ton a year ago, data from the Rubber Board showed. Production had fallen 2.8% in March. The country’s imports of natural rubber surged 83.7% on year to 26,445 ton in April, and exports fell considerably by 98.2% on year to 28 ton.
Rubber inventories were at 235,000 tn at end of April, up from 232,000 ton a year ago. India’s rubber consumption in April was 81,500 tn, against 82,980 tn a year ago, and 86,000 ton in the previous month. Further, the Board revised the natural rubber statistics for 2013-14 (Apr-Mar) from the provisional estimates provided last month. The Rubber Board upped India’s natural rubber output during 2013-14 from the previous estimation by 2,000 ton, to 846,000 ton, and as against 913,700 tn a year ago. The country’s rubber imports are now seen at 325,190 ton, up 723 tn from the previous estimation, 49.6% higher as against 217,364 ton a year ago. Estimated rubber consumption was pegged at 978,745 ton, up 1,350 tn from previous estimation as against 977,400 ton last year and exports are seen at 5,398 tn, up 17 ton from previous estimation as against 5,381 ton last year.
