ALOR SETAR, May 14 (Bernama) — The Kedah state government will be presenting to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak proposals on efforts that can be taken to ease the burden of those involved in the rubber sector following a fall in the price of the commodity now.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir said the proposals were aimed at alleviating the financial burden shouldered by those involved in the sector.
He, however, said the proposals would not involve fixing the floor price of rubber as the matter depended on market forces.
“We have been receiving various complaints from many parties including rubber smallholders. We take the current weak rubber prices seriously and are preparing proposals on four or five areas to be presented to the Prime Minister for his consideration.
“Among others, it is to ease the financial burden of the people involved in the rubber sector who are facing rising cost of living and so on,” he told reporters after chairing an Exco meeting here Wednesday. Meanwhile, Mukhriz said contrary to claims by certain entertainment centres that local authorities had issued them temporary licences to offer gambling services when booked by the authorities, no such licenses were issued.
He added that if it was found any officer had issued such a licence, stern action would be taken against the officer concerned.
