1. Yokohama Rubber announced that Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class compact SUV will come factory-equipped with its “C.drive2” tires for overseas markets. The GLA-Class will come equipped with one of two versions – standard and one based on its runflat technology. The size for both versions is 235/50R18 97V.
2. Czech company Propneu Sro was awarded the Maxam European dealer trophy for 2013 at the recent Expo Mokra, held near Brno in the Czech Republic (see photo above). Established in 2003, Propneu has been the exclusive distributor for Maxam tires in the Czech and Slovak Republics for six years. Expo Mokra is the industry fair for machinery and equipment for mining, processing and building industries. Set in a quarry, it has 70,000 sq. m of exhibition space, more than 140 exhibitors and attracts 10,000 visitors.
3. German firm Metzeler will be the official motorcycle tire of the 74th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota, US, held 4-10 August. Every year, the town hosts American motorcycle enthusiasts from all over the world. For over 74 years, fans have regularly met to share their passion for motorcycling.
4. Cooper Tire & Rubber Company launched an enhanced online tire business training programme for its direct and indirect wholesale and retail dealers. This new program, eCooper University Training Rewards, offers Cooper-brand customers several online courses in selling skills, product knowledge, the Cooper brand and business management knowledge. Participants who complete the training classes will earn points that translate to various levels of certification from Cooper, as well as “rewards to incentivise their teams to learn more as they build their business with Cooper”.
5. Dutch firm Magna Tyres announced that Armadillo Tire in Texas is its new exclusive distributor of solid tires in the US. Provisions of the agreement grant Armadillo Tire LLC sole ability to purchase and resell Magna branded solid tires utilised in the construction (skid-steer and telehandler) and scrap metal/waste handling (OTR) industries.
