NEW DELHI – Prices of maize rose in the key wholesale markets of Davanagere, Karnataka, as untimely rains have damaged the crop, while prices of wheat and basmati 1121 rice were flat today, traders said.
* Prices of MAIZE extended their rise in Davanagere as heavy rains have damaged the crop, said Shiva Kumar, a local trader.
* “Excessive and untimely rains have damaged 4-5% of maize and prices have moved up in the Davanagere market,” Kumar said.
* Arrivals were pegged at 1,200 bags (1 bag = 65 kg), compared with 1,000 bags the previous trading day.
* Prices of maize in Purnea, Bihar, also rose due to high demand in domestic markets, Kanhaiya Rastogi, a local dealer, said.
* Arrivals were pegged at 10,500 bags (1 bag = 65 kg), compared with 3,000 bags the previous trading day.
* Prices of mill-quality WHEAT in Kota, Rajasthan, were unchanged today. Arrivals were pegged flat at 5,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), said Aniket Mehta, a local trader.
* In Indore, Madhya Pradesh, the price of mill-quality wheat was steady. Arrivals were pegged steady at 5,000 bags, said N. K. Agarwal, a local trader.
* Prices of BASMATI 1121 RICE were stable, traders said.
