New Delhi: Natural rubber consumption in the country fell by 4 percent to 79,000 tonnes in November this year.
Its production also declined marginally by 1 percent to 93,500 tonnes during the same period, Rubber Board data said.
India consumed 94,400 tonnes of natural rubber and produced 82,440 tonnes in November, 2011.
Import of natural rubber rose by 41 percent to 22,748 tonnes last month from 16,125 tonnes in the year-ago period, while the exports declined by 9 percent to 568 tonnes from 622 tonnes during the same period.
In the first eight months of this fiscal, the consumption of rubber rose to 6,64,010 tonnes compared to 6,34,420 tonnes in April-November of 2011-12 fiscal. Similarly, the output rose to 5,78,700 tonnes from 5,75,100 tonnes in the same period.
The country’s rubber imports rose to 1,53,855 tonnes in April-November of 2012-13 fiscal compared to 1,15,885 tonnes in the same period of last fiscal.
Exports fell sharply to 9,179 tonnes from 21,686 tonnes during the period under review.
The stock of natural rubber in the country at the end of November stood at 2,65,000 tonnes.
