NEW DELHI – Prices of mustard fell today in Jaipur, Rajasthan, due to fall in edible oil prices in the global market, traders said. However, prices of soybean were up in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, due to lower supply, market participants said.
* MUSTARD seed was sold at 6,625-6,650 rupees per 100 kg, down 75 rupees from Thursday. Arrivals were steady at 275,000 bags (1 bag = 84 kg).
* “We expect a higher mustard crop in coming months, which is having a softening effect on prices,” a Jaipur-based trader, Rupesh Parekh said.
* India’s mustard seed production is expected to rise this year as sowing in the ongoing rabi season is 8.2% higher from a year ago.
* Sowing of mustard was around 9.0 mln ha, up 8.2% from last year, according to agriculture ministry data.
* SOYBEAN prices were up in Indore, Madhya Pradesh due to lower supply from farmers, said N.K. Agarwal, a local trader.
* Soybean was sold at 4,850-5,550 rupees per 100 kg, up 50 rupees per 100 kg from Thursday. Arrivals are pegged at 3,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), down 2,000 bags from the previous day.
* India’s soymeal production rose to 964,000 tn in November from 599,000 tn a year ago. The output for Oct-Nov was 1.6 mln tn against 1.1 mln tn in the year-ago period, according to the Soybean Processors Association of India.
