Mr. Yium Tavarolit, the CEO of IRCo paid a courtesy call to Mr. U Kyaw Shwe, the Director General (DG) of Department of Industrial Crops Development, Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation of Myanmar on Tuesday, 3 February 2015 in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar. Subsequently, he had a fruitful discussion on natural rubber (NR) development with the DG and relevant officials from Myanmar.
The discussion focused on current weak rubber market situation and ways to resolve this issue through close cooperation amongst NR producing countries. Myanmar is one of producers of NR in ASEAN with a total rubber plantation area of around 1.4 million acres (0.56 million ha) in 2014.
During the discussion, the CEO of IRCo presented and briefed the officials from Myanmar on the background of ITRC and IRCo, the price improvement mechanisms as well as the future plans of both organizations in the next ten years.
The CEO of IRCo also took the opportunity to extend an invitation to Mr. U Kyaw Shwe and other officials to attend and participate in a Joint Meeting between ITRC, Cambodia, Lao PDR,Myanmar and Vietnam (CLMV) on 26 February 2015 in Bandung, Indonesia. The main objective of the meeting is to discuss the prevailing NR market situation and strengthening the cooperation amongst ITRC and CLMV towards improvement and stabilization of NR price at remunerative levels for the benefits of NR smallholders in the 7 countries in the long term. In this regard, Mr. U Kyaw Shwe has accepted the invitation and will participate in the upcoming meeting.
