KOCHI,INDIA(Commodity Online): A five per cent rise is likely for global natural rubber output this year as farmers are likely to increase tapping activities prompted by a price rebound in Thailand, Vietnam and India, according to The Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC).
ANRPC is anticipating a global output of 11.18 million tonnes in 2015, Reuters quoted its secretary general. Sheela Thomas, Secretary-General ANRPC, said a marginal recovery in prices may trigger more tapoping especially in Thailand.
Thailand, the world’s biggest natural rubber producer, may witness a surge of is 7.4 percent to 4.3 million tonnes in rubber output, while output is likely to stay steady around 3.1 million tonnes in Indonesia —the second-top producer.
Output in Vietnam, which became the world’s No.3 producer in 2013, is likely to rise 4.9 percent to a record 1 million tonnes. Meanwhile, a slowdown in China’s economy could drag down the Asian giant’s imports for the first time in at least a decade, Thomas said.
