TAIPEI: Taiwan stocks rose 0.3 percent on Friday along with other regional bourses, but PC makers fell after Intel Corp slashed its first-quarter revenue forecast as small businesses put off upgrading their computers.
As of 0145 GMT, the main TAIEX index was at 9,626.32 points, after rising 0.8 percent in the previous session.
Quanta Computer, Asustek Computer and Compal Electronics all shed more than 0.3 percent, trailing the electronics sub-index’s 0.5 percent rise.
Quanta and Compal are the world’s top two contract PC makers, while Asustek makes its brand computers.
The Taiwan dollar strengthened 0.322 percent to stand at T$ 31.568 to the US dollar.
