NEW DELHI – Prices of wheat fell today in Kota, Rajasthan, while those of maize rose in Davanagere, Karnataka, as arrivals of the grain declined, traders said.
Prices of mill-quality WHEAT fell today in Kota, Rajasthan, traders said. In Kota, wheat was sold at 1,950-2,000 rupees per 100 kg, down 30 rupees from Wednesday. Arrivals of the staple grain were pegged at 80,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), down 20,000 bags from Wednesday, said Aniket Mehta, a local trader.
Prices are expected to remain in the current range, Mehta said.
However, in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, wheat prices were unavailable as markets were shut on account of ‘Amavasya’, traders said. Markets will reopen on Friday.
The government has procured 7.33 mln tn wheat in the rabi marketing season 2023-24 till Monday, the Department of Food and Public Distribution said in a tweet.
The government has estimated wheat production in 2022-23 (Jun-Jul) at a record high of 112.2 mln tn, 4.2% above the previous year’s output of 107.7 mln tn.
The US Department of Agriculture has raised its estimate for global wheat output in 2022-23 (May-Apr) to 789.02 mln tn from 788.94 mln tn estimated a month ago.
In Davanagere, Karnataka, MAIZE was sold at 1,500-2,000 rupees per 100 kg, up 50 rupees from Wednesday after arrivals of the grain significantly declined, said Shiva Kumar, a local trader. Arrivals were pegged at 2,000 bags, down 8,000 bags from the previous day of trade, Kumar said.
Prices of maize were unavailable in key wholesale markets of Purnea, Bihar.
