NEW DELHI – Prices of mill-quality wheat and maize remained steady today in key wholesale markets across the country, market players said.
WHEAT prices remained unchanged today in Kota, Rajasthan, as supply was sufficient to meet the demand, said Aniket Mehta, a local trader. In Kota, wheat was sold at 1,950-2,000 rupees per 100 kg. Arrivals of the grain were pegged at 30,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), compared with 50,000 bags on Tuesday, Mehta said.
Arrivals of the grain declined as not enough farmers are bringing the stock due to rainy weather, Mehta said.
Similarly, in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, wheat was sold at 2,250-2,275 rupees per 100 kg, steady from Tuesday, Lavish Shah, a local trader said. Arrivals, however, were pegged at 2,000 bags, up 500 bags from the previous day of trade.
The government has estimated wheat production in 2022-23 (Jun-Jul) at a record high of 112.2 mln tn, 4.2% above the previous year’s output of 107.7 mln tn.
The US Department of Agriculture has raised its estimate for global wheat output in 2022-23 (May-Apr) to 789.02 mln tn from 788.94 mln tn estimated a month ago.
In Purnea, Bihar, MAIZE prices were 1,750 rupees per 100 kg, unchanged from Tuesday as demand matched supply, traders said.
Arrivals of the crop were also pegged steady at 10,000 bags.
Maize was sold at 1,400-1,900 rupees per 100 kg, steady from Tuesday in Davanagere, Karnataka, said Shiva Kumar, a local trader. Arrivals of the grain were pegged at 4,000 bags, up 500 bags from the previous day of trade.
