NEW DELHI – Prices of mill-quality wheat rose today in the wholesale markets of Kota in Rajasthan, and those of maize rose in Purnea, Bihar, market players said.
Prices of mill-quality WHEAT rose in Kota today after arrivals of the grain declined, Aniket Mehta, a local trader said. In Kota, wheat was sold at 1,950-2,000 rupees per 100 kg, up 10 rupees from Tuesday and the arrivals were pegged at 100,000 bags compared with 125,000 bags the previous day of trade.
However, in major markets of Indore in Madhya Pradesh, wheat prices remained unchanged at 2,250-2,275 rupees per 100 kg, said Lavish Shah, a local trader.
Arrivals were pegged at 5,000 bags in Indore, down 1,500 bags from Tuesday.
The Centre’s wheat stocks with the Food Corp of India fell 4.3% on year to 29.03 mln tn as of May 1, according to data from the Food Corp of India. However, the stocks rose 247.8% from the previous month.
Procurement of wheat has started for 2023-24 rabi marketing season and the government has procured up to 24.96 mln tn of wheat as of Monday, the Department of Food and Public Distribution said in a tweet.
The government has estimated wheat production in 2022-23 (Jul-Jun) at a record high of 112.2 mln tn, 4.2% above the output of 107.7 mln tn the previous year.
Prices of MAIZE in Purnea, Bihar rose today after the arrivals declined, said Kanhaiya Rastogi, a local trader. Maize was sold at 1,750-1,800 rupees per 100 kg, up 20 rupees from Tuesday.
Arrivals of the grain were pegged at 7,000 bags, down 3,000 bags from the previous day of trade.
Prices of maize were unavailable in Davanagere in Karnataka as markets were shut on account of ongoing elections in the state.
