NEW DELHI – Prices of maize rose today in the benchmark markets of Davanagere as arrivals declined, and those of wheat remained steady in the benchmark markets across the country, traders said.
Prices of MAIZE rose today at Davanagere in Karnataka due to a decline in arrivals, said Shiva Kumar, a local trader. Maize was sold at 1,650-2,050 rupees per 100 kg, up 30 rupees from Monday. Arrivals of the grain were pegged at 3,000 bags, down 1,000 bags from the previous day of trade.
Prices of maize were unavailable in key markets of Purnea in Bihar.
Prices of mill-quality WHEAT were unchanged today in Kota. Wheat was sold at 2,060-2,110 rupees per 100 kg, said Aniket Mehta, a local trader. Arrivals were pegged at 50,000 bags, down 10,000 bags from Monday.
In key markets of Indore in Madhya Pradesh, wheat prices remained steady at 2,250-2,275 rupees per 100 kg and arrivals of the grain stayed at 3,200 bags, said Lavish Shah, a local trader.
The government has estimated wheat production in 2022-23 (Jul-Jun) at a record 112.2 mln tn, 4.2% above the output of 107.7 mln tn in the previous crop year.
The government has procured 26.14 mln tn of wheat in 2023-24 (Apr-Mar) rabi marketing season till Sunday, the Department of Food and Public Distribution said in a tweet.
The amount procured through Food Corp of India accounts for 76.4% of the government’s total wheat procurement target of 34.2 mln tn for the current marketing season that began on Apr 1.
The US Department of Agriculture has estimated global wheat production in 2023-24 at 789.8 mln tn, higher than the estimated 788.3 mln tn in 2022-23.
