Giti Tire Motorsport by WS Racing’s ‘Girls Only’ team displayed camaraderie, determination and spirit to finish the 51stADAC TotalEnergies 24-hour Nürburgring endurance race with technical issues, no-fault crashes and technical problems all overcome.
Heading into the weekend on a high, regular drivers Célia Martin, Pippa Mann, Fabienne Wohlwend, and Beitzke Visser (pictured above left to right) in the all-new G82 series BMW M4 GT4, supported by all-women pit and management crews, began at the very rear of the starting group due to a controversial technical offence.
Problems continued immediately with the transponder for time measurement suddenly breaking which required an immediate, time-consuming change, and having fought their way back from two laps down to lead the SP8T class a no-fault accident early on the Sunday morning broke the rear axle.
With the support of the crowd driving the team along, the crew carried out long and complex repairs to get the car back on track and the drivers completed the race without any further problems while delivering strong lap times.
All four cars from the Giti Tire Motorsport by WS Racing roster reached the chequered flag with both the teams and the tyre manufacturer’s technical crew reporting absolutely no issues all weekend with the GitiCompete GTR1 tyres.
Thorsten Willems, Team Principal, said: “In order to be able to implement such a comprehensive project in the toughest car race in the world, WS Racing relies on the support of strong technical partners.
“Giti Tire has been supplying the GitiCompete GTR1 racing tyre for years, which offers very good performance. In addition they support us with know-how from its own hugely experienced European Technical Team to deliver the perfect tyre service.
“Thanks also to Giti’s truck and bus tyre partner, Boxenstop24 who were heavily involved throughout the weekend”.
While the action on the track proved challenging, the weekend itself was a huge success for the Giti brand with a massive digital content push reaching a global audience.
Trackside was a huge European customer event with distributors and their customers, while a busy fan activation area was created for families.
Stefan Brohs, Marketing Director – Europe for Giti Tire, said: “Wow, what a weekend! The racing delivered everything you expect from the world’s leading endurance race, and we brought all those thrills and spills from Nürburgring Nordschleife to people at the circuit and fans worldwide.
“As well as promoting the Giti brand we enjoyed our first major event with co-branding partners Sparco® with the Giti – Powered by Sparco® slogan promoted all weekend.
“But the work doesn’t stop there, the GitiCompete GTR1 tyres performed brilliantly all weekend and the technical details will be scrutinised by our European R&D Centre in Hannover, Germany and shared with the other R&D Centres worldwide so we can take the findings from ‘the racetrack to the streets’.”
