NEW DELHI – Prices of wheat fell today in Kota, Rajasthan as arrivals increased, while those of maize remained steady in Davanagere, Karnataka, traders said.
In Kota, WHEAT prices fell by 20 rupees to 2,330-2,350 rupees per 100 kg as arrivals increased, said Aniket Mehta, a local trader. Arrivals of wheat were estimated at 6,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), up 1,000 bags from Tuesday.
Prices of wheat in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, remained steady today at 2,500-2,530 rupees per 100 kg, local traders said. Arrivals also stayed steady at 1,500 bags.
The government will offload an additional 5 mln tn of wheat and 2.5 mln tn of rice through open market sales scheme in 2023-24, said Sanjeev Chopra, secretary, Department of Food and Public Distribution, in a conference today.
The government has sold 108,000 tn of wheat out of 109,000 tn offered in the seventh e-auction of open market sales today, said Ashok Meena, chairman of the Food Corp of India. “We have also sold 150 tn of rice in the 6th e-auction today.” The agency had put 193,000 tn of rice on offer.
The government also said that it has adequate stocks of wheat and rice as of now and the stocks will remain enough even after releasing it under the open markets sale scheme. “The government has adequate stocks of wheat and rice. We have 8.7 mln tn of surplus wheat and 20 mln tn surplus rice,” Meena said.
In Davanagere, MAIZE was sold at 2,200-2,350 rupees per 100 kg, steady from Tuesday, local traders said. Arrivals were also pegged steady at 500 bags (1 bag = 60 kg).
