NEW DELHI – MAIZE prices from Davanagere in Karnataka were unavailable today as the markets were shut on account of Raksha Bandhan, said local trader Shiva Kumar.
So far in the crop year 2023-24 (Jul-Jun), farmers have sown maize over 8.2 mln ha, against 8.0 mln ha a year ago.
Prices of mill-quality WHEAT were also unavailable from Kota, Rajasthan, as the markets were shut, said Aniket Mehta, a local trader. Markets will reopen on Friday, Mehta said.
In Delhi, wheat was sold at 2,510-2,515 rupees per 100 kg, according to a poll conducted by Cogencis.
The US Department of Agriculture has scaled down its estimate for global wheat consumption in 2023-24 by 3.4 mln tn to 796.1 mln tn from 799.5 mln tn projected last month. The agency has also projected global production of wheat in 2023-24 at 793.37 mln tn, lower than 796.67 mln tn estimated in July.
The Indian government on Wednesday said that it will allow export of non-basmati white rice to Singapore, Bhutan, and Mauritius. A total of 79,000 tn of non-basmati white rice will be shipped to Bhutan, 14,000 tn will be exported to Mauritius and 50,000 tn of rice to Singapore, the notification said.
On Jul 20, the government had banned exports of non-basmati rice to check prices and to ensure availability in the domestic market. End
