NEW DELHI – Wheat prices were unavailable today in the benchmark markets of Indore, Madhya Pradesh, as markets were shut, and those of maize were also unavailable due to no arrivals of the crop in the market, local traders said.
Prices of mill-quality WHEAT were unavailable in the key wholesale markets of Indore as markets were shut on account of a strike organised by traders, said Lavish Shah, a local trader.
“Market will remain closed till Thursday due to the strike,” he said.
On Friday, wheat in Indore was sold at 2,500 rupees per 100 kg and arrivals were pegged at 1,500 bags.
In Delhi, wheat was sold at 2,525 rupees per 100 kg, unchanged from Friday, according to a poll conducted by Cogencis.
The US Department of Agriculture has scaled down its estimate for global wheat consumption in 2023-24 by 3.4 mln tn to 796.1 mln tn from 799.5 mln tn projected last month. The agency has also projected global production of wheat in 2023-24 at 793.37 mln tn, lower than 796.67 mln tn estimated in July
MAIZE prices from Davanagere in Karnataka were unavailable today as there were no arrivals in the mandi, said Shiva Kumar, a local trader.
So far in the crop year 2023-24 (Jul-Jun), farmers have sown maize over 8.3 mln ha, against 8.1 mln ha a year ago. End
