SHANGHAI: Shanghai shares closed up 1.76 percent on Thursday as market sentiment improved after China’s central bank soothed concerns over an unruly depreciation of its yuan currency, dealers said.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rose 68.24 points to 3,954.56 on turnover of 577.4 billion yuan ($ 90.2 billion).
The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China’s second exchange, added 2.21 percent, or 49.61 points, to 2,298.79 on turnover of 497.7 billion yuan.
