HONG KONG: Hong Kong stocks fell almost one percent Thursday, extending the previous day’s heavy losses, with Chinese firms listed in the city weighed by concerns over the mainland economy.
The Hang Seng Index sank 0.97 percent, or 206.93 points, to close at 21,095.98 — a day after losing more than two percent.
However, in Shanghai the benchmark composite index added 0.86 percent, or 26.80 points, to 3,142.69, having also slipped more than two percent Wednesday. The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China’s second exchange, rose 1.22 percent, or 21.10 points, to 1,757.54.
