Rocky Mountain Colby Pipe Co., an extruder of plastic plumbing products and electrical conduit, is for sale.
Croydon, Pa.-based Roscom Inc. announced plans for the sale July 6. The two companies share common ownership.
With plants in Denver and Pendleton, Oregon, Rocky Mountain Colby Pipe makes ABS and PVC drain, waste and vent pipe and PVC pressure-rated pipe and electrical conduit for the construction, recreational vehicles, and factory-manufactured housing markets. Products are marketed through wholesale distributors in the central and western United States and Canada.
Last year RMCP had annual sales of about $ 85 million, making it the 42nd largest pipe, profile and tubing extruder in North America, according to Plastics News’ rankings, which will be updated in the July 25 edition.
RMCP says it has 102 PPT employees working 20 manufacturing lines. The company also says PVC electrical conduit accounted for 36 percent of overall sales in 2015, which is up from 24 percent in 2011.
To keep up with PVC conduit demand, RMCP invested $ 10.7 million in the Oregon site in 2014, more than doubling capacity there to 57 million pounds and total company capacity to 114 million pounds. A key supplier contributed about $ 3 million.
The Denver operation, which has two plants, is near capacity. RMCP has looked into relocating in Denver, which is obligated to help existing businesses move within county lines under the Uniform Relocation Act. However, the company says its $ 20 million near-term plan is contingent on the proposed expansion of the adjacent National Western Stock Show grounds.
RMCP was created in 1996 when the Rocky Mountain Pipe Co. bought Colby Plastics Converters Inc., forming what company officials said at the time was the single-largest producer of ABS pipe in North America.
