Rubber planters should make all efforts to maximise latex yield with the commencement of the peak season, Rubber Board of India has urged farmers. Price fluctuations should not keep them away, says the board.

Rubber planters should make all efforts to maximise latex yield with the commencement of the peak season, Rubber Board of India has urged farmers. Price fluctuations should not keep them away, says the board.
In the context of the beginning of the peak season, growers should make all efforts to take maximum yield from their plantation, the Rubber Board has advised.
As the Kerala government has assured that its Rubber Production Incentive Scheme (RPIS) is to continue, farmer should get a minimum price of R150 per kg, said the Rubber Board of India in a release in Thiruvananthapuram.
“Discontinuance of rubber tapping in the coming months, when yield from rubber shows an upward trend, will cause substantial income loss to farmers,” the board cautioned.
The board went on to list the steps it has taken to improve production and productivity of natural rubber (NR) in the country, in the recent months. Production of natural rubber in the country in the first four months of the current financial year has shown an increase of 4.47 % on a year-on-year basis.
The board’s mass contact programme to popularise low frequency tapping (LFT) to improve profitability has received a positive response, said the release. About 5,000 growers have come forward to adopt weekly tapping. Those who adopt LFT should ensure that no tapping days are lost. Rain-guarding can still be done so that no tapping days are further lost in the coming northeast monsoon.
