Rubber growers have demanded withdrawal of market cess imposed by regulated markets on rubber.
In a statement here on Saturday, C. Balachandran Nair, secretary, Kanniyakumari District Rubber Farmers Association, said GST for rubber was fixed at 5%. Various taxes and levies subsumed should be part of the transaction/supply chain that commenced with import/manufacture/production of goods or provision of services at one end and the consumption of goods and services at the other end. All state cess and surcharges in so far as they relate to the supply of goods and service would be subsumed in GST.
At a seminar on GST held on June 25, the office-bearers of the association had reiterated that the market cess should be withdrawn once the GST was rolled out. The association also decided not to pay market cess to the regulatory markets while supplying rubber from July 1.
