HAMBURG: The Taiwan Flour Millers’ Association has purchased 92,465 tonnes of milling wheat to be sourced from the United States in an international tender which closed on Tuesday, European traders said.
The grain was bought in two consignments involving different wheat types, they said.
The first consignment for shipment between April 28 to May 12 involved 26,000 tonnes of US dark northern spring wheat of 14.5 percent protein content bought at $302.24 a tonne FOB US Pacific North West coast, traders said.
Another 12,450 tonnes of hard red winter wheat of 12.5 percent protein content was bought at $264.82 a tonne FOB and 6,720 tonnes of soft white wheat with 9 percent protein was bought at $226.45 a tonne FOB.
The first consignment has an additional freight charge of $33.68 a tonne for ocean shipping from the US Pacific North West coast to Taiwan, they said. The first consignment was all bought from trading house ADM.
The second consignment for shipment between May 15-29 involved 27,850 tonnes of dark northern spring wheat of 14.5 percent protein content bought from the United Grain Corporation (UGC) at $297.28 a tonne FOB.
The second consignment also included 12,850 tonnes of hard red winter wheat of 12.5 percent protein content bought from Columbia Grain at $261.08 a tonne FOB and 6,595 tonnes of western white wheat with 9 percent protein bought at $220.73 a tonne FOB also from UGC, they said.
The second consignment has an additional charge of $32.35 a tonne for ocean shipping from the US Pacific North West coast to Taiwan, they said.
US wheat continues to hold its dominance in the Taiwanese market.
In its last reported tender on Feb. 6, the Taiwanese association purchased 77,200 tonnes of milling wheat, also to be sourced from the United States.
