Rubber planters to meet this weekend to formulate demand that govt shore up prices
Southern rubber growers will hold a meeting in Nakhon Si Thammarat on Saturday to draw up a plan for pressing the government to shore up rubber prices.
Prathop Suksanan, president of the Southern Rubber Growers Network, on Monday said the meeting would be held in the province’s Thung Song district.
A meeting is deemed necessary because the price of latex has fallen to about Bt37 to Bt38 per kilogram, while the price of smoked rubber sheets has dropped to around Bt42 to Bt43 a kilo, he explained.
The meeting will plan strategies for calling on the government to keep its promise for state agencies to increase the use of rubber and for the administration to take action against the Rubber Authority of Thailand for its failure to shore up prices, Prathop added.
