UKROEd, the organisation responsible for the central governance and consistency of the National Driver Offender Retraining Scheme (NDORS), is proud to announce its official support for TyreSafe, the UK’s tyre safety charity. This new partnership underlines UKROEd’s ongoing commitment to reducing road collisions, injuries, and fatalities by promoting safe driving practices and vehicle maintenance.
Tyre safety is an essential aspect of road safety, often overlooked by drivers, yet it plays a crucial role in preventing incidents. By aligning with TyreSafe, UKROEd seeks to improve awareness around the importance of regular tyre checks and maintenance among participants of the NDORS courses and the wider public. This partnership allows both organisations to work together toward their shared goal of making UK roads safer.
As part of this collaboration, TyreSafe’s vital resources will be integrated into NDORS courses, helping drivers understand the risks posed by poorly maintained or illegal tyres, and encouraging proactive behaviour in checking tyres regularly. The partnership commencement is timely as Tyre Safety Month, coined by the charity and marked across October, is now in full swing, with an additional push underway to raise awareness across both the public and enforcement about the ganfers of driving on illegal or poorly maintained tyres.
Stuart Lovatt, Chair of TyreSafe, said, “We are delighted to welcome UKROEd as an official supporter of TyreSafe. Their role in delivering driver education through NDORS aligns perfectly with our mission to raise awareness of tyre safety. Together, we can make a real difference by reducing tyre-related incidents and ensuring that drivers are equipped with the knowledge they need to keep themselves and others safe on the road.”
UKROEd provides governance, standards, and consistency for the NDORS scheme across all police forces in the UK. Their courses are designed to change driver behaviour and reduce the number of collisions, deaths, and injuries on UK roads. This partnership with TyreSafe adds another vital layer of education, ensuring that drivers not only understand the consequences of their actions on the road but also the importance of vehicle maintenance in preventing incidents.
“Checking the pressure, condition and tread of all your tyres once a month, every month and before a long journey is excellent advice,” says UKROEd chief executive Ruth Purdie OBE. “If you don’t know what to look for in a safe tyre, then do consult the tyresafe.org website which has plenty of useful information that will help you keep your tyres in the best possible condition as well as assist in identifying potentially dangerous defects.”
