Kumho Tyre, the official tyre sponsor of the British Racing and Sports Car Club’s (BRSCC) Mazda MX-5 Supercup and Championship race series, has celebrated a thrilling season after the final round of the series at Brands Hatch on 19th and 20th October 2024 saw Aiden Hills winning the Supercup and Thomas Langford clinching the Championship title, while Jonathan Greensmith was victorious in the Clubman series, marking a successful year for both drivers and Kumho’s high-performance tyres.
As the exclusive tyre partner for the Mazda MX-5 Championship series, Kumho provided competitors with its advanced, high-performance road and race-engineered tyres, contributing to close, competitive racing throughout the season.
Paul McErlean, Chief Operating Officer, British Racing and Sportscar Club (BRSCC), said: “Kumho has been an exceptional partner for the Mazda MX-5 Championships this year. Its tyres have given our drivers the grip, durability and consistency needed for an exciting racing season. It’s been fantastic having Kumho as a key partner in making it all possible this year, and we’d like to thank the team for their support.”
Richard Lyons, Managing Director for Kumho Tyre UK, added: “It’s been a privilege to support the Mazda MX-5 Championships and see our tyres perform in such demanding conditions. Congratulations to all three drivers on their well-deserved championship wins! This partnership allows us to continually develop our tyre technology while enhancing driver performance and safety.”
As Kumho Tyre UK celebrates a successful season with BRSCC and looks forward to the future, the company remains committed to advancing its tyre technology, making motorsport more thrilling and accessible for drivers and fans alike.
GGR Motorsport driver George Grant, who competed in the SuperCup adds: “At the start of the season, I was naturally cautious about moving to a new tyre supplier.
Racing drivers are creatures of habit, and any change, especially in something as crucial as tyres, can stir up a bit of apprehension. However, Kumho’s tyres have truly exceeded our expectations across the board.
“As the season progressed, we found that not only did the tyres perform exceptionally well in dry conditions, but they also delivered consistent grip and stability in the wet – a vital factor in motorsport. We are delighted to support a product that has demonstrated both reliability and performance, especially under the intense demands of competitive racing. We’ve been genuinely impressed with how Kumho has risen to the challenge this season.”
Aidan Hills, who won the Supercup in 2023 and completed the double in 2024 said: “From the outset, I could tell that the Kumho tyre was going to perform well in race conditions. It made the Mazda feel like a race car, with consistent performance that did not drop-off during racing.”
AB Motorsport driver, Langford, was crowned BRSCC Mazda MX-5 champion on home turf at Brands Hatch, beating Adam Sparrow to glory with seven wins overall. Discussing his win, Langford said: “I’m so delighted and proud of what we have achieved this year, winning the national championship. This is my first championship, and I was delighted it happened at our home track of Brands Hatch.
“Having the support of our sponsors is key – without them, none of this is possible. Kumho’s commitment to performance and reliability aligns perfectly with the competitive spirit of the championship – and having their tyres on the car gave me the confidence to race to victory! I’d like to thank all of our sponsors and partners for a fantastic season!”
