NEW DELHI – Prices of wheat and maize were steady today across key wholesale markets of the country, traders said.
* Prices of WHEAT in Kota, Rajasthan, were largely unchanged as lower arrivals negated the impact of weak export demand from countries such as Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, said Chander Khandelwal, a local trader.
* Arrivals were pegged at 4,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), down 1,000 bags from the previous day.
* The Securities and Exchange Board of India on Monday restricted bourses from launching new contracts of wheat. “In respect of running contracts, no new position will be allowed to be taken. Only squaring up of position will be allowed,” the market regulator said.
* Prices and arrivals of mill-quality wheat in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, were also flat, said Jitendra Panwar, a local trader. Mill-quality wheat was sold at 1,925-1,950 rupees per 100 kg, and arrivals were pegged at 2,000 bags.
* Prices of MAIZE in Davanagere, a key market in Karnataka, were also flat despite lower arrivals. Arrivals were pegged at 2,000 bags (1 bag = 65 kg), compared to 4,000 on Monday, said Shiv Kumar, a local trader.
* In Purnea, Bihar, maize prices were largely unchanged. Arrivals were also lower at 2,000 bags, compared to 3,000 on Monday, said local trader Kanhaiya Rastogi.
* Prices of BASMATI 1121 PADDY and BAJRA were largely unchanged across markets.
