NEW DELHI – Wheat prices in key wholesale markets of Kota and Indore remained flat today. Prices of maize rose in Davanagere in Karnataka on the back of strong demand, but fell in Purnea, Bihar, said market participants.
* Prices of MAIZE gained in Davanagere, a major market in Karnataka, due to increased demand from domestic bulk buyers, said Shiva Kumar, a local trader.
* Arrivals were pegged at 885 bags (1 bag = 65 kg), compared with 825 bags the previous day.
* However, prices of maize fell in Purnea, Bihar, due to sluggish demand from domestic and overseas buyers, said local trader Kanhaiya Rastogi.
* Prices are likely to remain stable in the near term, but may fall in April after arrival of new crop, he added.
* Arrivals were lower at 1,500 bags, compared with 2,500 bags on Friday. Supply of maize in Bihar has fallen in recent days as the lean season is underway.
* Prices of mill-quality WHEAT in Kota, Rajasthan, were flat today despite higher arrivals, said Aniket Mehta, a local trader.
* Arrivals were pegged at 7,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), up 2,000 bags from Friday. Supply increased as the market reopened today after the weekend.
* Prices are likely to remain stable in the short term but may fall in March when the new 2021-22 (Jul-Jun) rabi season crop arrives in markets, traders said.
* Prices of mill-quality wheat in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, were also stable today due to steady demand as well as supply. Arrivals stayed at 1000 bags, said N.K. Agarwal, a local trader.
* State Supply Corp’s tender to purchase 700,000 tn of wheat in Madhya Pradesh, which was supposed to open on Feb 2, has opened today.
