NEW DELHI – Prices of maize fell today in key wholesale markets of Davanagere and Purnea due to weak demand, said market participants. Meanwhile, prices of wheat in Kota and Indore remained unchanged from Monday.
* Prices of MAIZE were down today in Davanagere, a major market in Karnataka, as demand from domestic stockists was subdued after the recent surge in prices. Arrivals were almost steady at 1,000 bags (1 bag = 65 kg), said Shiva Kumar, a local trader.
* In Bihar’s Purnea market maize prices declined due to sluggish demand from domestic and overseas buyers, said local trader Kanhaiya Rastogi.
* Arrivals in Purnea were lower at 1,000 bags, compared with 1,500 bags on Monday. Supply of maize in Bihar has fallen in recent days as the lean season is underway. New crop is expected to hit the spot market from April, he added.
* Prices of mill-quality WHEAT in key trading centres Kota, in Rajasthan, and Indore, in Madhya Pradesh, were flat today due to lack of strong demand as stockists await new crop to hit the market.
* Arrivals in Kota were pegged at 5,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), down 2,000 bags from Monday, said Aniket Mehta, a local trader.
* Arrivals of wheat in Indore were steady at 2,000 bags, said a local trader Jitendra Panwar.
* Prices of BASMATI 1121 PADDY and BAJRA were largely unchanged across markets.
