NEW DELHI – Prices of wheat rose in Kota, a major market in Rajasthan, due to firm demand from overseas buyers amid reduced supply. Prices of maize were lower across key benchmark spot markets of the country, traders said.
* Prices of mill-quality WHEAT were higher in Kota due to firm overseas demand amid fall in supply, as bulk buyers are hoarding wheat, said Chander Khandelwal, a local trader.
* Arrivals have decreased, as large companies are stocking wheat in anticipation of a further price rise, causing a temporary scarcity in the market, Khandelwal said.
* Arrivals were pegged at 35,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), down 5,000 bags from the previous day of trade.
* Prices of mill-quality wheat were flat in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, due to steady demand and supply, said N.K. Agarwal, a local trader. In Indore, arrivals remained steady at 15,000 bags.
* Prices of MAIZE fell in Purnea, Bihar, today due to a drop in demand from bulk buyers amid a rise in supply, said local trader Kanhaiya Rastogi.
* New crop arrivals were pegged at 105,000 bags, up 15,000 bags from the previous day, traders said. Bihar is the largest grower of rabi maize and arrivals are on full swing in the state, traders said.
* Prices of maize also fell in Davanagere, a major market in Karnataka, due to reduced demand from bulk buyers, said local trader Shiva Kumar.
* Arrivals were pegged at 1,000 bags (1 bag = 65 kg), unchanged from the previous day.
* Prices of BASMATI 1121 PADDY and BAJRA were largely unchanged across markets.
