NEW DELHI – Maize prices rose today in the key wholesale markets of Purnea and Davanagere due to a fall in arrivals as farmers are holding onto the stocks, while prices of wheat were flat across benchmark markets of the country, market participants said.
* Prices of MAIZE in Purnea, a key market in Bihar, rose today due to a sharp fall in arrivals in the spot markets, local dealer Kanhaiya Rastogi said.
* In Purnea, arrivals more than halved to 70,000 bags (1 bag = 65 kg) from 150,000 bags from the previous day.
* Arrivals have fallen today as farmers are holding onto the stocks, anticipating a rise in price, traders said.
* Prices of maize also rose today in Davanagere, a major market in Karnataka, taking cues from the Purnea market, local trader Shiva Kumar said.
* In Davanagere, arrivals remained steady at 1,000 bags.
* Prices of mill-quality WHEAT were flat in Kota, Rajasthan, as demand and supply were largely unchanged from the previous day, said local trader Chander Khandelwal.
* Arrivals were pegged at 13,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), unchanged from Wednesday.
* Prices of mill-quality wheat in Indore were also steady. Arrivals stayed at 10,000 bags, said a local trader N.K. Agarwal.
* Prices of BASMATI 1121 PADDY and BAJRA were largely unchanged across markets.
