KENINGAU, July 19 (Bernama) — Two hundred and twenty-one thousand rubber smallholders nationwide have received the special assistance introduced by the government to ease their plight following the falling price of the commodity.
Risda spent RM110.5 million on the payout, according to Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.
He said 2,346 of the 221,000 recipients were from Sabah, involving a payout of RM1.73 million.
“The distribution starts in the interior first, such as Keningau, Sabah, to other states and finally in Selangor,” he told reporters after presenting the special assistance to smallholders here today.
Mohd Shafie also witnessed the handing over of a RM1.248 million cheque by Risda director general Datuk Datuk Wan Mohammad Zuki Mohammad to Risda Sabah director Omar Hassan for distribution to 2,496 recipients in Sabah.
