NEW DELHI – Prices of maize rose today in Purnea and Davanagere, while wheat prices were largely steady across key wholesale markets in the country, traders said.
* Prices of MAIZE were up in Davanagere because of firm demand from stockists. A fall in arrivals also supported the prices, traders said.
* Arrivals were pegged at 1,700 bags (1 bag = 65 kg) compared with 4,000 bags the previous day.
* Current supply is unlikely to meet the requirement of stockists who may purchase the commodity in bulk over the coming days, said Chandrasekhar Babu, a local trader. Supply is likely to increase from next week, he added.
* In Purnea, Bihar, prices of maize rose due to firm domestic demand, said local trader Khaniya Rastogi. Arrivals were pegged steady at 4,000 bags.
* Prices of mill-quality WHEAT were flat today in Kota, a key market in Rajasthan, as both demand and arrivals remained unchanged. Arrivals were pegged at 3,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), said Chander Khandelwal, a local trader.
* Prices have fallen over the past few days and may further decline as arrivals of new crop are likely to hit the markets in March, Khandelwal said.
* In Indore, prices of mill-quality wheat were unchanged today. Arrivals, too, were steady at 1,000 bags, local trader N. K. Agarwal said.
* Prices of BASMATI 1121 PADDY and BAJRA were largely unchanged across markets.
